- Seriously? - 100% You're gonna shake on it? - You wanna, you wanna shake on that?
- Yeah shake on it, shake on it. - Third hand, shake on it. - Shake on it. - Make sure he's not crossing [He did] his fingers behind his back. Yeah, no I think it might be the liquid courage talking "Is capitalism good?" I don't think it's perfect https://casinoslots-sa.co.za/welcome. But I don't think there is a perfect system. You'll never please everybody I do think because I've been inbred and like born into a capitalistic system... ... I'm programmed to think my worth and value is attributed to like how much I have or how much I can spend on this thing And so I don't love that That's what capitalism means to you in your head? yeah I don't think of it that way, it's so funny I think of it as, uh, I create my destiny and there's no cap to my ability that you want to attain that and that you can attain that. I also agree I feel like you create your own destiny and we're... Until you don't though. Yeah, that's true. But then that's your choice. Don't you think? I think we don't always have a choice in a lot of ways so like we can't control where we're born, or who we're born to Um, and so I think the whole bootstrap pulling yourself up from your bootstraps, some people don't have a boot to pull their straps up with But do you think some people lack motivation to change their circumstances? So you use the analogy of you were a teen mom and like you work and you fought, you did all these things.... I know other teen moms who also I know personally Did they have support from their families? Yeah, so I think they had support from their families Right, I didn't I was kicked out. So yeah, so they had support [So I didn't] from their families and still didn't, still didn't make it Oh and they still didn't make it Like are struggling right now So those people gave up and they... No, no so I'm saying they're still fighting but their circumstances aren't changing... And that's not anything that they're doing You've gotta stop, I have to stop you If you keep doing the same thing So that's on you, right? So if you're a single mother, with four children and you get help from your family, but you still aren't your circumstances aren't changing you're telling me that that's their fault 100% okay 200 Oh, you're so lucky! Community chest! Was that? Thank you, Do I get this? - No, sweetheart - Damn [You only get that...] I keep, I want this!! I'm gonna get this "Roll the dice. The highest roller may dare the others to do anything. To get out of the dare pay a hundred and twenty-five dollars to the bank." - I see you. - eight. - Alright. - So the dare is... - Eleven. So I dare you to tell everyone your- how much you make It's millions and millions of dollars. [Exact number] That was a good answer. [Exact number] The honest truth is I don't even know. - Really? - I don't know exactly how much I make, I know it's millions of dollars Okay, I dare you to... throw all of your money up in the air How much is it, declare it! 89 bucks, okay *cheering* Yaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssss That was beautiful! [Good job buddy] Now make sure you pick it all up so that you don't lose any money Yeah, no shit You owe her $400 or $450 450? yeah Alright.

Where's the money? We gotta pay the rent." He said, "I don't know. I'm sorry." And then you realize, Oh shit! No, not "oh shit."
The fight-or-flight kind of happens and that's when your persona as a human; your resilience comes out, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Super super great. Come on! Oh, I gotta pay you? Damn it I have to pay you, Okay. I'll gladly pay you Oh man all that money you've been rackin I love paying rent! (sarcasm) "Can money solve the world's problems?" Hells to the no! I disagree with that whole-heartedly. Yes it can. - I don't think so. - Why do you disagree? I just do, I think money cannot fix anything. In a capitalistic society, such as we have, I feel like money equals power and so like if you don't have it, I think you don't have a say in the room in a lot of ways And so I think it can't fix things holistically, but it can change status which I think changes things I'm gonna stick to it fixes problems to a certain point. I agree with that statement better. It's like to a certain point like, you know, the more money you have the more financially secure you are blah blah blah - Options - and your happiness you have more options, but then after a point You know, your happiness, I believe, plateaus after you make a certain amount of money. The more money you make, that doesn't have any correlation or anything. Money is not gonna make you happier; not to begin with and not at the end of it. What's the answer, the original question which is "does money". Yes, it solves many many problems. There are certain problems that cannot be solved with money, but 80% of your day-to-day issues revolve around money. Money solves some problems, but doesn't solve everything is what we're saying. Yeah! But, it solves a lot. It gives you the resources and potential [Did I go? Oh, It's your turn] but it's not the end-all-be-all Answer this question or pay $100 to the bank if you don't answer this question. "How much do you make?" In my previous job I made 20 an hour. I make 47k. (a year) I paid $100. I had a lot of brand deals last year I made- If I won two hundred and fifty free dollars, -which I probably will because I'm gonna beat everybody. I've been into solo traveling recently so I'd probably take that 250 bucks, get an airfare ticket. I have tried to be better with saving, um, so 250 doesn't sound like a whole lot at the moment but I think if I got it I try to save some of it I'm probably gonna spread the wealth and give my portions to everybody else or invite everybody to a nice meal That's probably what I'm gonna do with that money if I win. If I won $250 today I would donate it to my favorite nonprofit organization, which is The Thirst Project so I'm gonna win it for them Oh, rent $8 - Go for it. - Thank you This is very different with real money, this is like changing how I deal with this. It's harder to give you that. The question is "Would you like to contribute to the prize pool? If so, please do it now." So this would be going to one of you if we won. Mine's for charity. What, it's like charity of your own pocket or like...? No, no, The Thirst Project I'm willing to contribute, but I don't have cash... here. But I'm good for it. I'll put up to another $750 I'll make it $1,000. Are you kidding? - No. - You're serious? - Yeah. - So whoever wins you're just gonna venmo them $750 Gladly, yes. The question is "Would you like to contribute to the prize pool? If so, please do it now." I'm willing to contribute.
I'll put up to another $750. I'll make it $1,000. Are you kidding? No! You're serious? Yes! Jessica: I feel like this is the Hunger Games D'Andre: Hey! yeah.. This is important, here we go! My name is D'Andre Coates and I work at University of Southern California, so USC and I work in Residence Life Student Affairs My name is Aneesh. I work at a healthcare start-up as a medical scribe trainer Oh my god, this is real money too. [laughs] I'm Jess Lizama I'm a YouTuber and blogger, I've been doing it since before YouTube was a thing. Since 2009, so, OG YouTube in the house! My name is Mike Makabi, I'm in real estate and marketing. I love what I do. I'm very good at what I do and, uh, that's my calling in life. I found it, I guess I'm blessed for that. Oh, doubles! Cannon! That's chance. So how much would you chop off a limb for? Forty million dollars. They may not- they may go with someone else. What, was that just a shot in the dark? Well because that means that I'd be able to get that limb prosthetically put back on and I also would have peace of mind because I did this for no less than forty million dollars. Your worth? Okay I'm gonna go and say forty-two million. I would say a hundred million because, I'm a strong girl. My legs are strong; whoever's getting this left leg - squat for days. Yeah, I would never chop off any limb for any amount of money. I would however chop off any body part for someone I loved. Oh that's a conce... cop-out. I would've done the same thing! That's a less realistic answer than I expected. Read the question! Five. What was the most financially desperate time of your life? How did you deal with it? Oh, there were so many! I was a teen mom, single mom. You apparently cannot sleep in a Walmart parking lot in a car with your baby. So that was me and uh Wow! I'm still here! So it's all good but uh, yeah good stories. In college there was one semester where I could not afford to go back. I like, applied for a shit ton of scholarships, and I got one. I'm really fortunate to have grown up in a well-off family. My parents did a lot of the hard work; them being immigrants and the fact that my parents are incredibly supportive. I have not encountered that yet. Good for you. And I hope I don't but, yeah, I'm really blessed. When I was a kid, we had, uh, we were upper-middle class and then my dad went bankrupt. I moved to America at fifteen and a half by myself living on my grandmother's floor and my father moved to Africa. And so he was trying to send money and I remember talking to my dad and I said, "Papa, what's up? My bank accounts. My credit cards to have a look at them whenever he wanted over the next a little bit, and you know that that's always been a bit of a temporary measure. You know holding on someone's credit cards or having someone look at your stuff. It'S only temporary, the real fix for me was when I figured out what was wrong with me: ain't got that treated and then then not instantly, but the gambling the need to do something extreme like gambling to cope and that went away. But you know the end of this story is, I'm probably about $ 40,000 in debt and I'm starting a new job, which is, I think it Oncasinogames Canada? Maybe it was paying me 40,000 a year.
So it's not ideal, but it's better than the situation I was in before, but not really because I'm probably another 15 or 20 thousand dollars in debt than when I was before you know. Overall, the story is a happy ending, but it didn't happen right away, and I really want to tell people about this because you know addiction is hard. Mental health is also hard and the only way that I was able to get through this. It was by taking the time that I needed to explore what was wrong with me and then taking the time to treat it, and I was only able to find out about the ADB after I went through a whole bunch of different therapy options to figure it Out and even then it was an incident I you know, I started taking the medication and it did change my life, but I still had these residual gambling behaviors. I know I want people to know that this is out there and then, if you're, going through something something like this not exactly like this, but you know, maybe you just had a spending problem. There'S there's a way out. You can get out of it. You know it might not be right away, but as long as you know that there is a way out, then you can take the steps, but usually there's no way out of something. By doing the same thing that you were doing right, they say that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. And I was, I just kept gambling thinking that somehow it was gon na fix itself, or this time was the time, and now I had to change my life completely. To get out of this, you know go work in a cigarette factory if you're trying to quit smoking. You know I'm a big Cheers fan, but I think Sam alone gave a really bad example by working in a bar being an alcoholic you you don't really do that if you're trying to change yourself because you're always sucking there, I got a job. You know about 10-15 years ago, at a casino in mice. In my town, I I'm a train roulette dealer, I'm a croupier, because I thought it would be a good idea, a good idea to not be able to gamble in the casino that I worked in, which is true, but I've just exposing myself to this world that I really really needed to get out of, and so I'll tell my other story is another time, but I think this is a good one to start with, because you know the your lowest point is there's only you know they say you can only go up from There and it's you know I can - I can talk about it now, it's so hard to talk about it. I can talk about it now, but it was. It was really terrible and I never thought about suicide and funny enough. I never thought about even going to get a payday loan, which is what a lot of people would have done instead of going to their friend. I think part of me wanted some accountability, some help, and sometimes the only way I could get help was by causing some kind of disaster for myself. So that's my story for today anyway, and it's not the most uplifting one, but it's very important for people to know - and I'm here at the at fincon is a personal finance conference, because today I help people and I help them by just trying to give them Some basic advice about what to do with their money, but I also want to help people by telling my story and if you have a story, you should tell it too, because you never know who's going to be listening and then they say I have that too, And then they go get medicated or you know I have something similar and then they talk to you about it, and maybe they never even thought about it before, but it's something that they can work on and fix, but they never thought that they could or no One ever showed them for the acceptance, and this is important. A recent article in the Union-Tribune touts what most moms have known all along – united moms are happy moms. Ask any mom of a toddler or a teenager, and they’ll tell you that the bonds of friendship with other moms go a long way toward preserving their sense of sanity.
Of course, one way to build or strengthen those friendships is through shared activities and interests. You might simply go for a walk together each morning or take turns planning free activities with the little ones. Maybe you’re a book hound and would enjoy getting together with your girlfriends and others in a book club. Getting together over shared hobby projects is an old standby. Discover what skill sets reside in your group of friends or research some educational hobby ideas where you can all learn a new skill together. Think outside the box … you’re not limited to the typical “mommy hobbies.” Try your hand at stained glass, build a miniature doll house or village, or learn about astronomy. Yes, each of these educational hobbies can be pursued individually, but we’re social creatures. It’s a lot more fun to learn new skills and try new things with our friends! Build Environmental Awareness With Educational Hobbies Once you start looking for ideas for educational hobbies, you’ll find they pop up everywhere! Children holding kites made from recycled bags. Here’s an idea from the 2008 River Festival in Brisbane, Australia. They’ve combined trash cleanup and creativity to teach children about caring for the environment in a constructive way. A new exhibit at the festival will include 350 kites made from plastic bags, 700 plastic bottles made into costumes and artwork and a collection of 1 million bread tags that will stretch across the Victoria Bridge.” The exhibition called ‘Out of the river … imagine’ is based on the amount of rubbish that Healthy Waterways removes from the Brisbane River every week. Think about it … all of those plastic bags, bottles, and bread tags pulled out of the river each week! Kudos to the organizers of this event, and to all the artists and school groups that are involved. This is an innovative way to teach an important concept to children and the community-at-large. You can combine basic wonderment of nature with the complexity of technology very easily right in your own backyard, home or school through educational hobbies. Nature provides a plethora of plants, insects and animals as study material for this process. All you need to do is to have a simple basic digital camera and a way to print pictures of what you’ve taken.
One of my favorite educational hobbies is to look around my yard to see what I can of interest. Fortunately I can sit and watch for a little while allowing the critters around me to settle and accept my presence before getting closer to them. Some animals have a natural fear so they will be harder to approach, but in time as long as they begin to sense no perceived threat, they will allow me to get closer and closer. Bee in flower. Kodak Camera. Some of the animals and insects are obvious because of their size. However, there are others that one needs to look closely to see. But if you look closely you’ll discover more than you might expect. One simple way to study these critters is to use a simple digital camera to snap shots of them. Take this little bee for example. You actually combine two educational hobbies…photography and entomology. Pictures often reveal more than the eye can see in a glance. The photograph provides one a detailed record of not only the bee but the flower it is on. Now a trip to the library or a search on the internet for more information about both the little bee and the flower yields more information to expand upon in the classroom or the home “lab.” Being alert to the environment around you, you can find many creatures of interest. Spider. Mouse. Fungi. Above: A spider in the garden. A field mouse seeking warmth and food on a cold winter night. A “Puff Ball” fungi harvested from the backyard. All make great subjects for educational purposes. Isn’t it time you got started in any one of the many Educational Hobbies? |
